Fanout Explorer: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini

Three free, read-only bookmarklets that show the query fan-out behind an AI answer: the searches ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini runs for a prompt, the pages they get back and which ones they cite. Drag the one you want to your bookmarks bar, then click it on a chat. On Windows, where a dragged bookmark does not always take, use the copy button under each one instead.

What each one shows

All three read a chat you already have open, live or from your history and keep a copy in your own browser. Nothing about your chats is sent anywhere. Gemini is the one that behaves a little differently: it reveals its searches only after the answer finishes, then shows the sources it cited without the wider pool of pages that ChatGPT and Claude expose.

ChatGPT Fanout Explorer

Live and saved chats. On a new chat it fills as ChatGPT searches, a batch of several searches at a time, then settles once the answer is done. On a chat from your history it shows the whole fan-out at once. For every search it gives you the query, the pages that came back, which of them were cited, the freshness window and any single site the search was limited to.

Claude Fanout Explorer

Live and saved chats. On a new chat each search appears as Claude runs it, one query at a time, filling while the answer is written. On a chat from your history it shows at once. For every search and every page Claude opens it gives you the query, the pages that came back and which of them were cited, exact per query.

Gemini Fanout Explorer

Live and saved chats. Gemini reveals its searches only once the answer is saved, so the panel fills when the answer finishes rather than word by word. It shows two things Gemini keeps out of the interface: the search queries it sent to Google plus every source it cited, with how much of the answer each one backs. Gemini does not expose the pages it read and dropped, a freshness window or a site limit, so those columns from the ChatGPT and Claude tools are not here.
